It is the result of the merger of two esteemed technikons, ML Sultan and Technikon Natal. The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was established in 2004 and was previously known as Vaal Triangle Technikon. The university is based in southern Gauteng and draws students from all over the country. The institution has four campuses in Vanderbijlpark, Secunda, Daveyton and Upington.
